My leadership exercise is about listening to music and thinking about what that music conveys. Only two of the below tracks will be listened to. Because the music listened to will be from video games with specific areas tied to those soundtracks, the other students will be given two sheets of paper, where they must draw a scene which they think the music is trying to convey. Maybe partway through one of the songs, the students have to pass their paper to the student next to them, and the student next to them has to interpret and finish drawing what the other student was trying to convey, adding a layer of depth to the understanding of the music. At the end of listening and drawing, the students will be asked to talk about what area they drew and explain what in the music made them draw what they did. The purpose of the assignment would be to work on expressing musical interpretation without words, explaining what they drew and backing up why, and if I end up having students pass their paper to someone else halfway through each song, to be able to interpret other students’ ideas without those ideas necessarily being written in words. Below are the songs I plan to use.
