Indigenous Music Reflection

I really enjoyed this song. While I am not one to dance or listen to Electronic Dance Music very often, I found the song really catching and found myself tapping my foot to the beat. What I learned about the group, A Tribe Called Red, was that it was formed out of a need for indigenous dance music in clubs, seeing as there were barely any around the time the group was formed. And when the group played their music and saw that people were “freaking out across the dance floor”, they knew they had found a way to bring indigenous music to the forefront. The group has also used their music as a means of fighting against stigmas against indigenous music and has refused to be entered as a candidate for Best Indigenous Music at the Juno awards, instead aiming for best Electronic music. Apparently, the song itself is based on a Cree war cry, though I cannot confirm this to be true or not.
